Digital DIY: My Favorite Sites & Blogs

1. Family Handyman
Categorized by parts of the house with dozens of step-by-step project plans with estimated hours, difficulty, and price ranges, I don’t know of a better site than this one for home projects, both outdoor and indoor. I tend to like The Family Handyman more than This Old House because the designs on This Old House are a little too classic for me even though you will find useful resources there too. If you are looking for crafty Pinterest-style projects however, better stick to some great blogs like The Design Confidential or The DIY Playbook (love the wordplays and web design on that one).

2. Ana White
With excellent wood and storage plans, complete with images, downloadable PDFs, and video tutorials, Ana White’s blog is one of my favorites. The blog includes both farmhouse and modern designs, and the blog posts are categorized in many ways including style, skill level, and room.

3. Shanty-2-Chic
What first brought me to this page was a search on how to build floating shelves, and I loved the ones in their design (it’s run by two sisters). Their rolling garage lumber/project cart is also a favorite; plans come with printable PDF and step-by-step high quality close ups of how to make it.

4. Vintage Revivals
This blog has been the number one DIY blog on several “best DIY blogs” lists in the last two years, and it certainly deserves the praise. Here you will find modern farmhouse style designs together with super-creative Pinterest apartment looks.
